They hold back 'Jet City Woman' for the encore so as to get the whole room singing along for one final time. I've been a fan of this band from the very early days, beginning in about or so. I've seen them several times over the years, watched their evolution as a band and seen the differences because of line up changes. As most Queensryche fans know, the band has parted ways with their original lead singer, Geoff Tate. One of the things I've loved so much about this band is the powerful vocals.
And in recent years, I hate to say it, but Geoff's vocal style has changed, not bad necessarily, but not what he used to be. Todd has breathed new life into a band that I feared were on their way out. He has all of the power to be able to perform the classics like Take Hold Of The Flame and Queen Of The Reich, and he sounds incredible on their newer material as well. His presence has refreshed and reinvigorated an incredible group of musicians.
So, in my concert history, I have seen 3 separate versions of Queensryche. The original on the "rage" tour opening for Ratt. The Tate version in ATL a year ago. Now the "latest" version of this great band. To be honest, I love all three so I won't be picking one over the other in this review. The show I saw this month was fantastic! In this venue we were right up front. The visuals on the led screens were tight. The sound was spot on. Most importantly, the band was phenomenal.
With an amazingly accurate lead singer belting out the greats like Tate wishes he still could, this latest version of 'ryche comes out swinging and never lets up. They pull some deep tracks out to play and hit all the ones you want to hear with only one glaring omission Bottom line, if you love Queensryche Don't miss this powerful performance. I really enjoyed the show. I sadly, had to leave early because my mother was picking me up. But atleast I got a chance to see u guys for the 2nd time.
Eve to Adam and John 5 were amazing, but the final act Queensryche was the best. I hope The Verdict Tour was fun for u guys, even though the album itself was incredible. I only had 2 regrets, 1 being me leaving early, cuz Queensryche is my favorite band.
But anyway if u guys Queensryche r reading this, Queensryche will always be one of my favorite bands and I will definitely see u guys again sometime. Todd La Torre - get used to the name - what a great voice - I absolutely love the new album The Verdict.
He is awesome on the album. The rest of the band jammed as always - this is my fourth 'Ryche show - first with the new dude. Very disappointed They sounded like a garage band in a garage The Venue is a location I will never attend again The sound and lighting were the worst I've seen in Utah or Idaho I haven't listened to much else since my copy arrived something else I didn't expect to happen either!
Todd sounds great on the album! Yes, he does sound like Tate on some of the songs, and he sounds like himself on others. As far as the law suit, the judge that made the comment about the "market sorting itself out" was replaced shortly after the ruling that allowed Tate to pretend to be Queensryche.
If that was the real issue, it's long over. But, it's really a corporate business case and that was over long before it started. The band was smart enough to pull business documents together years ago that outlines how to handle these situations - which left Vestical out in the cold with only the ability to bill himself as Geoff Tate, formerly of Queenryche for 1 year kind of like a prenup.
Hopefully the new judge actually understands business law. Thanx for your comment, Scott. I've listened to both albums now.
Neither measures up to even Q2K, which by the way is music I liked and some of it a lot. Sacred Ground and Burning Man get cranked in my car all the time. What I find upsetting on this page is that people seem to want to give Scott, Eddie, and Michael the benefit of the doubt, but crucify and castrate Geoff.
I just looked back over their entire discography to see who wrote most of the material. Fans of the LaTorre version seem to want blame Tate for taking over and being the driving force behind the band in the last 10 years.
I think it was because he had to. Every last one of them. Feels like it was actually the other way around. They were hanging on GT's coattails not he on theirs. Bottom line is that both new albums are listenable. If you give Todd too high of marks I think its because you hear a little bit more than is there. He's good, but do you really think he's Tate good?
When the songs a bit slower and the vocal control for the lower register is needed, he doesn't have it. For those that think GT has lost it, I urge you to let go of your anger and go see for yourself. You'll get lost in Mindcrime done by the guy who wrote it. Peace out and I hope you all are just like me and want good music Rock to have a renaissance!
I'm thinkin' the CDs need to come with a score card Updated yet again with latest info from both the TateRyche and ToddRyche camps Yeeeaaaahh, a pack of cigarettes. That's it. Tate's game plan is simple: he wants to be the first one to get an album out under the "Queensryche" name so when they go to court he can say to the judge, "See your honor? I was there first! Pink Floyd, if you read Nick Mason's book, was completely broke after a while and The Wall and Darkside of the Moon had them bankrupt despite their popularity.
The only one to make money off The Wall was Rich Wright because Roger kicked him out and only kept him on as a hired artist. Tate's version is just a middle finger out of spite to the band and the fans.
It's a money grab, he's admitted as much. Record an album to confuse everyone, but no one's buying it. Plus 2 people already left his original lineup and then they can't get a guy to remix his crappy sounding album originally mixed by the old producer that started recording his solo projects disguised as Queensryche albums starting with Mindcrime 2.
And lets face it both bands are cover acts. They're all controlled by nutjobs since their original members left and now they're nothing more than cash grabs.
That could've been EMI. Back in the day seven or eight album deals were the standard in the record industry I heard that they had a record deal which forced them to write 8 records within a certain amount of years somewhere back And they'd been struggling for sometime to get out of it. Keith - which contract are you referring to?
They've been signed to several different labels over the past decade or so. When their original label, EMI, went bust in the late 90s they moved to Atlantic for one album "Q2K" in and since then they've released material via Sanctuary Records and Rhino Records.
I wonder if this split was due to the contract they were forced into years ago which nearly destroyed the band several times The one which forced them to create countless albums at some unrealistic rate.
Check it out above!! They did a mini "Mindcrime" set when I saw them on the Promised Land tour in , too. Going in and knew not to expect it, and still it was a great show.
Empire tour where they did it in its entirety and the Hear in the Now tour Of course the first time was when they opened for Ratt in 86 before Mindcrime.
How many years did fans geek out at the mere mention of Mindcrime part II? I wish the original guys would stop all of this crap and put their differences aside and play the music the music we all love with the original lineup.
I do think he is going through a midlife crisis lol. I live in england and ive seen mindcrime 3 or 4 times now on 4 different tours in the last 20 years. It might not seem too bad to some people but i think it is kind of playing on the fact that,Empire aside ,everything that followed mindcrime was pretty much crap. You could have made one good album out of the lot.
I believe wiltons QR are doing exactly that and for me they will get my vote every time but i will listen to tates QR out of interest but i don't expect much as im not a fan of his solo stuff and for me this is essentially a solo album. Please note, this is only my opinion and have not come on here to put anyones nose out of joint, lol. A brilliant campaign to put QR back on the map. What better way to get the pubic looking at you again. Hey Freedom!! ToddRyche played in New Jersey my home area a couple of weeks ago but unfortunately I wasn't able to check them out -- a friend of mine did and his report was very similar to yours, i.
Saw Queensryche the real one, not Tater and tot's Vestryche last month and it was an amazing gig! They had something that has been missing for years - chemistry on stage!
Aside from La Torre, Parker Lundgren has really proven himself. He and Whip have great chemistry on stage and is by far the best 2nd guitarist since DeGarmo left the band the real reason was revealed in the court docs, which was because of Geoff Tate's behavior. DeGarmo has been a class act, staying away from the drama.
The closest we will probably ever get to a statement from Chris is what Scott Rockenfield said during an interview with Eddie Trunk - that Chris stayed friends with most of the band and has been supported of the changes in Queensryche. He could have really let loose on Tate, but has stayed classy - which is the same thing the band has done about firing Tate.
I met the band after the show and they all kept it classy and wouldn't slam Tate. They were all very thankful to the fans for their support. I haven't this excited about a new Queensryche album since waiting for Empire to arrive in stores! Can't wait to hear it!
Hi Ginfire - I'm digging "Redemption" as well, haven't heard much of the GT album yet aside from some brief snippets on iTunes, and those were pretty low quality so I didn't hear enough to make a call on it one way or the other.
I'll give Geoff this much, he's got an impressive roster of players on his record, but that doesn't make it a true "band," if you know what I mean. Queensryche sounds like Queensryche but not one of the samples from GT's version sounded anything like Queensryche with the exception of GT's voice. CRyche - obviously it's all about name recognition. If one side or the other gave up the name they'd be starting over from scratch.
I have been reading everything that has happened and I have been a longtime Queensryche fan, my only question is: Now that DeGarmo has left the band and Tate has been fired, Why don't the remaining members keep the name Rising West and Mr. Tate stay a solo act? I like the sound of the new Queensryche with LaTorre, but it will not be Queensryche.
Eric - The way things have been going, I'm half expecting that a third Queensryche centered around the long-absent and greatly missed Mr. DeGarmo will make its debut any minute now. I wasn't hearing the vocals I wanted and I wasn't hearing the cool music that I loved them to have. When I got into the fold, it was, like, 'Hey guys, show me all the music you've got. I'm never going to tell you anything's too heavy. I was, like, 'Did you just make this up?
This was stored on a hard drive. I showed this to our old singer and he thought it was too heavy. Show me everything you have and I'm going to give it my all.
