In his final moments, Anakin comforted Luke, reminding his son that there had always been good in him—just as Luke had believed. Anakin then passed away, [1] and his body disappeared into the light side of the Force. Luke escaped the Death Star with his father's armor moments before the battle station was destroyed by the Rebel Alliance at the battle's end. When the pyre was constructed, [1] Luke lit it aflame and burned his father's armor, [5] leaving behind the twisted remains of Darth Vader's helmet.
The funeral held importance for Luke, but he knew that for anyone else, the sight of Vader's helmet in flames would be cause for rejoicing. As such, Luke was careful to hold the funeral well away from others. The charred remains of Darth Vader's helmet, scavenged from the funeral pyre on Endor. C-3PO expressed his joy at seeing Luke alive and suggested that the young Jedi join the celebration with his fellow rebels in the Ewok village. Luke briefly stepped away from the celebration and saw the spirits of his Jedi Masters , Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda , quietly observing the evening's festivities.
Together, the three watched as Luke looked on. Luke bid them farewell and rejoined the celebration, [1] his journey to becoming a Jedi Knight complete. Vader's helmet was scavenged from his funeral pyre in the aftermath of the Battle of Endor. Thirty years after the funeral, [7] the charred and melted helmet was in the possession of Vader's grandson, Kylo Ren.
He spoke to the twisted helmet for guidance, [12] and the helmet acted as a symbol of the power of the dark side [7] —as well as its weaknesses, as Ren believed that it was Darth Vader's sentiment in saving Luke that brought down the Empire. When the film was first shot, the funeral scene was not part of the movie. Only after the conclusion of principal photography did George Lucas and his creative team decide to add the scene.
Anakin's death had ended with the character in Luke's arms , which created concern that the audience might think Anakin was still alive [14] or, according to editor Duwayne Dunham , that Luke had left his father's body aboard the second Death Star.
Kazanjian was opposed to the scene at first but changed his mind after viewing an animatic version of it. He entreated Luke to kill Vader and take over his place in the empire but Luke still refused and threw away his lightsaber. Emperor Palpatine was raged and attacked Luke with force lightning. Vader could not watch his son being tortured so he stepped in to destroy the emperor, throwing him down the reactor shaft where he dies.
Unfortunately, when Vader came into contact with the emperor, he was still shooting lightning all over the place. Vader was fatally electrocuted. Remember the physical state he was in already? Surviving this would have been very difficult. He was already in a vegetative state, breathing only with the help of the black armour given to him by the emperor. His armour is then damaged and his mortal gets wounded. Darth Vader requested Luke to take off his helmet because he wanted to see him for the last time with his real face, as Anakin Skywalker.

His wrath as Vader and redemption of Anakin remains one of the highlights in Star Wars. We can all agree that love always conquers.
Vader had killed so many people including Jedi younglings without mercy or remorse. It was nice to see him die a redeemed person plus doing a good heroic act. His death was saddening and confusing at the same time. We had witnessed him being struck with force lightning before and he was never hurt.
